Seattle police warn fans that driving into downtown Seattle for the Seahawks Super Bowl parade will cause major delays and safety issues.
SEATTLE — As tens of thousands of fans prepare to celebrate the Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl LX victory, the Seattle Police Department is urging people to leave their cars at home and use public transportation.
In a statement released Tuesday, Sgt. Patrick Michaud warned that driving into downtown Seattle for Wednesday’s championship parade will likely lead to heavy congestion, street closures, and long delays.
“I know your brain has come up with a plan to just drive into Downtown and effortlessly parking a block from 4th Avenue,” Sgt. Michaud said. “But let me tell you… that’s not happening.”
Downtown Traffic Will Be Limited
The parade will move through the core of downtown Seattle and is expected to draw massive crowds from across the region.
SPD said traffic will slow early as crews close streets and expand pedestrian-only zones near the parade route. Even drivers who arrive before sunrise should expect delays on Interstate 5 and nearby surface streets.
Police cautioned that parking will be extremely limited. Many drivers may not reach viewing areas before the parade passes.
Public Transportation Is the Best Option
SPD strongly recommends public transportation for anyone attending the parade.
Sounder commuter rail, Link light rail, and King County Metro buses will carry fans into and out of downtown. Officers encourage people to leave vehicles at home or use park-and-ride locations.
Reducing vehicle traffic will allow emergency services to move through crowded areas more quickly and safely.
Firearm Safety Reminder
SPD also issued a firearm safety reminder for parade attendees.
Police urged gun owners not to bring firearms into the city or leave them inside vehicles. Past large events have resulted in firearms stolen during vehicle prowls.
Officers emphasized that leaving firearms at home helps prevent theft and keeps the celebration safe.
Officers Available Throughout the Event
Seattle police officers will staff downtown throughout the parade. Officers will wear high-visibility yellow vests to assist with directions, safety concerns, and general questions.
SPD encouraged attendees to approach officers if they need help navigating crowds or finding transit options.
The Seahawks parade takes place Wednesday, with crowds expected to arrive hours before the event begins.
