BIRCH BAY, Wash. — The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting Sunday evening involving members of two motorcycle gangs in Birch Bay.
Deputies responded to the 7800 block of Birch Bay Drive at about 7:15 p.m., according to the Sheriff’s Office.
One person suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was receiving treatment, deputies said. Several people were taken into custody in connection with the shooting.
The Sheriff’s Office said there is no known threat to the public based on the information currently available.
Deputies and law enforcement partners remained in the area as investigators worked the scene. The Sheriff’s Office asked community members to avoid the immediate area while the investigation continues.
A PNW Daily follower who said they were at the beach when the shooting happened reported hearing six or seven gunshots and seeing people run from the area.
“I was on the beach when it happened heard six or seven gunshots then saw people running on the beach and hiding,” the witness said. That’s when I got my kids the hell out of there because there was an active shooter.”
PNW Daily has not independently confirmed the witness account or the number of shots fired.
The Sheriff’s Office has not released the identities of those taken into custody or identified the motorcycle gangs involved.
