Cole Hilton’s Family Expands Search for Camera Footage

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Cole Hilton’s family has expanded its search for camera footage as it continues seeking answers about the fatal injuries he suffered while cycling on North Lake Samish Road.

Family Identifies Two Key Intersections

The family is asking residents near two intersections to check security cameras, Ring cameras, trail cameras and dashcams:

• West Lake Samish Drive and Roy Road
• North Lake Samish Road and East Lake Samish Drive

Linda Hilton said those intersections sit at opposite ends of the section where footage could help establish an accurate timeline.

The family is seeking recordings from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 11. Videos showing vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians or any other activity could prove useful.

“Even if it doesn’t seem important, it could provide a critical piece of information,” Linda Hilton wrote.

Anyone who has footage can contact Linda Hilton through a private message on social media. She also asked residents to share the request with people who live near either intersection.

Sheriff’s Office Investigates Hilton’s Death

Deputies responded at about 1:40 p.m. July 11 to North Lake Samish Drive near Prescott Lane. Someone had reported an injured and unconscious bicyclist alongside the road.

Firefighters and emergency medical personnel were treating Hilton when deputies arrived. Crews transported him to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Crime scene investigators and Traffic Unit deputies examined the scene. Additionally, security footage from a local business showed another bicyclist traveling in the same direction shortly before Hilton was found.

Investigators previously asked the public to help identify that cyclist and determine whether the rider had information about the incident.
