BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Mt. Baker Ski Area is moving into its spring operations schedule as the 2025-26 season winds down, with a midweek closure followed by a final weekend of skiing and riding.
This week, the resort’s planned spring closure continues through Thursday, April 16. Operations then resume Friday, April 17 for closing weekend.
Forecast Calls for Fresh Snow Ahead of Reopening
Despite the brief shutdown, conditions may improve heading into closing weekend. Forecast models call for roughly 12 to 18 inches of new snow between Tuesday and Thursday across the upper slopes. That incoming system could reset surface conditions ahead of Friday’s reopening, potentially setting up a late-season powder window for skiers and riders.
Resort Officials Optimistic About Closing Weekend
Mt. Baker marketing manager Amy Trowbridge and events manager Nicole Evans confirmed the schedule and noted the timing of the incoming snowfall could benefit the final weekend.
“We are closed this week, but reopening Friday for our closing weekend of the season,” Trowbridge said. “With the anticipated snow during the closure it should make for a great weekend.”
Evans added that the storm cycle could meaningfully improve conditions by Friday morning. “There’s a fair chance for about 12 to 18 inches of snow between Tuesday and Thursday,” Evans said. “So Friday when we open for our final weekend of operation for the season it could be a powder day.”
What Skiers Should Know
Visitors planning to attend closing weekend at Baker Ski Area should monitor updated forecasts and resort reports. Spring conditions can shift quickly with elevation and temperature changes, so checking in close to your planned visit day is a smart move.
Many area ski shops have started spring clearance, so if you haven’t gone up the mountain all year, the time is running out on you Sunday.
