SEATTLE — Anticipation is building across Washington as the Seattle Seahawks prepare for Sunday’s Super Bowl appearance, turning the days leading up to kickoff into a statewide event.
Across the region, fans have filled offices, storefronts, and social feeds with blue and green. As a result, the buildup has moved beyond Seattle and into daily life statewide. Public agencies and local organizations have also joined the moment.
Troopers swap hats for Seahawks caps
Earlier this week, the Washington State Patrol announced that troopers may temporarily replace their traditional hats with Seahawks baseball caps.
According to the agency, the change lasts only through game day. Troopers will return to standard uniform hats immediately afterward. Officials emphasized the move recognizes the cultural moment rather than signals a lasting policy shift.
The post spread quickly online. In response, many commenters described it as a fun and human gesture that reflects the team’s role in Washington communities.
Local rally planned in Bellingham
Meanwhile, that same energy will take shape Friday in Bellingham.
Local radio stations are hosting a Seahawks fan rally at Bellingham’s Civic Field, drawing fans together ahead of the game. Gates open at 11:30 a.m.
At 12:12 p.m., organizers plan to line participants up on the field for an overhead photo. The goal is to form a human “12,” a reference to the Seahawks’ fan base.
The event is co-sponsored by the City of Bellingham and is open to the public.
A statewide moment, not just Seattle’s
Although the Seahawks carry Seattle’s name, their following stretches far beyond city limits. From coastal towns to Eastern Washington, fans now share the same countdown to kickoff.
Because of that reach, bars and restaurants are preparing for full houses. At the same time, families are planning watch parties. Throughout the week, conversations have increasingly shifted toward matchups, traditions, and game-day rituals.
Football as community glue
For many Washington residents, moments like this extend beyond football.
Instead, the Seahawks’ Super Bowl appearance offers a brief pause from the daily news cycle. It also provides a shared focus across political, geographic, and cultural lines.
Together, the State Patrol’s uniform change and Friday’s rally point to the same reality. Sports still unite people in ways few other events can, despite all the turmoil currently swirling in the United States.
Go Hawks.
