SEATTLE — Seattle police arrested a 12-year-old boy Saturday night after he allegedly attacked a woman with a screwdriver and robbed her near an Amazon Fresh store in the city’s Central District.
Officers responded around 6:50 p.m. to a reported robbery near 23rd Avenue South and South Jackson Street, where they found a 43-year-old woman injured, according to the Seattle Police Department.
Police said the suspect, described as wearing a hot pink ski mask, assaulted the woman inside the store, punching her multiple times in the face before pulling out a screwdriver and striking her on the left cheek.
After stealing her handbag, the suspect reportedly rummaged through the contents in a nearby parking garage. Investigators said he then returned to the victim and assaulted her again before fleeing.
Suspect recognized by officers
When officers later spotted the suspect, he ran from them on foot. Police said they were able to identify him based on his age, distinctive clothing, and previous interactions with law enforcement.
Officers went to the boy’s family home, obtained a warrant, and took him into custody without incident. They also recovered the screwdriver allegedly used in the attack.
Booked into juvenile detention
Police booked the suspect into juvenile detention at the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children & Family Justice Center.
Seattle Police robbery detectives are investigating the case.
