POINT ROBERTS, Wash. — Paige Adamson, 61, a Canadian citizen and U.S. permanent resident, died at her Point Roberts home on Oct. 18, according to the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office.
“This was an unattended death, which appeared to be of natural causes, i.e. non-criminal in nature.”
Amy Cloud, Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson
Cascadia Daily News reported that Adamson had avoided seeking medical care in Bellingham because she feared crossing the border could lead to detention or prevent her from returning to the United States. The newspaper reported that she had been unwell and had fallen at home in the days before her death.
According to CBC News, U.S. border agents detained Adamson for nearly six hours on Sept. 15 and questioned her about allegations involving voter registration and voting in a U.S. election. Adamson told CBC News, as a permanent U.S. resident for over 14 years, she had never voted in a federal U.S. election.
Cascadia Daily News also reported that Adamson received notice to appear at a deportation hearing in November.
This is a developing story. PNW Daily will update this report as authorities release additional information.
Frequently Asked Questions

What is wrong with USA CBP? WHY ARE THEY SO WORRIED ABOUT ANYONE VOTING? This is a great example of what TRUE excessive use of power just because they are guarding a post that really gets no action!!! If they have to act like that to get their “power tripping” egoistic needs met. They should ask for a transfer to Arizona or Texas border. Then they would get some REAL CBP action. I have experienced CBP first hand on Washington border, and they çan be very excessive with their treatment of people with dual citizenships. Its almost like they have resentment of it.
