WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Rain has delayed the reopening of State Route 9 between Nooksack and Nugents Corner as crews finish repairs to the Klein Ditch Bridge.
The Washington State Department of Transportation said Friday, Sept. 25, that crews had to pause work because of the rain. The bridge at milepost 87 will remain closed in both directions until weather conditions allow crews to pave the bridge and complete the remaining work.
WSDOT originally planned to reopen SR 9 at 6 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, after a three-day closure.
Drivers Should Continue Using Detour
Through traffic should continue to detour around the closure until WSDOT completes the paving and reopens the bridge.
The signed detour uses SR 542, Interstate 5, SR 539 and SR 544.
Local access remains available on SR 9 north and south of the closure, but drivers cannot travel through the closed section.
WSDOT has not provided a new reopening time. The highway will reopen once crews can complete the paving work under favorable weather conditions.
