DUI Crash on SR 167 in Renton Injures Three Thursday

RENTON, Wash. — The crash injured three people early Thursday when a vehicle lost control and overturned on southbound State Route 167 near 180th Street in Renton, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The crash happened at about 2:15 a.m. Sept. 10 in lane three of three. WSP reported that a 2007 Honda Civic lost control and struck the left-side barrier before coming to rest on its roof, partially in the left shoulder and lane three.

The Honda’s 25-year-old driver, Carlos M. Tovar Coiran of Seattle, exited the vehicle after the crash, according to WSP. A 2025 Nissan Pathfinder then struck Tovar Coiran before striking the overturned Honda.

Crews transported Tovar Coiran and his passenger, 42-year-old Gerardo Pacheco Flores of Auburn, to Harborview Medical Center with injuries. Crews also transported the Nissan driver, 54-year-old Silvia B. Barrios of Kent, to Valley Medical Center.

WSP reported that all three people were wearing seat belts.

WSP Lists DUI And Speed As Causes

The collision report lists DUI and speed as contributing causes.

According to WSP, Tovar Coiran is now facing a vehicular assault charge. A charge is an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Lynn’s Towing towed both totaled vehicles from the scene.

Authorities kept the roadway blocked for 5 hours and 42 minutes while they investigated the crash and cleared the vehicles.
