MILL CREEK, Wash. — Nearly two weeks after someone struck a pedestrian and drove away along State Route 96, Washington State Patrol detectives are still searching for the driver responsible. Now, investigators hope surveillance footage and one missing piece of the suspect vehicle will help solve the case.

The collision happened at 1:56 a.m. June 25 on westbound SR 96 near Dumas Road and Elgin Way SE. According to investigators, a pedestrian was walking in the westbound lane when a silver or gray Chevrolet Tahoe-style SUV hit the person before continuing west toward Interstate 5 without stopping.
Rather than remaining at the scene to render aid, the SUV continued westbound across I-5 and into Everett via 128th Street SW, according to WSP. Investigators have not released the condition of the injured pedestrian.
Missing Marker Light Could Be Key
Detectives believe the suspect vehicle is a late-1990s or early-2000s silver or gray Chevrolet Tahoe. Surveillance cameras captured images of the SUV shortly after the collision.
The footage also revealed what investigators believe is one of the strongest pieces of evidence in the case. The SUV is missing its passenger-side marker light, damage WSP says resulted from the collision. Anyone who has recently noticed a Tahoe matching that description with fresh front-end damage or a missing marker light is encouraged to contact investigators.
Witness Describes Occupants
A witness told investigators the driver appeared to be a white man in his 40s or 50s. A younger female was riding in the passenger seat when the collision occurred.
Washington State Patrol Detective Nick Brockman is asking anyone who witnessed the collision, saw the suspect vehicle that morning, or has dash camera footage from the area around 1:56 a.m. on June 25 to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Brockman at 360-757-2008.
