SEATTLE — Seattle police detectives are investigating the homicide of a 19-year-old woman who died in a stabbing Sunday night inside a University of Washington-affiliated housing complex.
“At about 10:10 p.m., UW police officers responded to a stabbing at Nordheim Court, 5000 25th Avenue Northeast,” Seattle Police Department spokesperson Detective Eric Muñoz said in a release.” There, they found a deceased victim in a laundry room.”

Local media outlets later identified the victim as a transgender woman. Seattle police confirmed the victim was 19 years old. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will release her identity after notifying family members.

Police Continue Search for Suspect
Seattle police continue searching for a suspect described as a Black male with a beard and slim build. Police estimate he stands between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-8 tall. He reportedly wore a dark blue vest over a button-up shirt and blue jeans.
Police ordered residents to remain indoors while officers searched the area Sunday night. Officers lifted the shelter advisory shortly before 1 a.m. Monday, but detectives continued investigating through the night.
SPD homicide detectives and crime scene investigators processed the scene overnight.
Investigators have not released details about what led to the stabbing. Police also have not said whether the victim knew the suspect.

UW Shares Crisis Support Resources
The University of Washington expanded outreach efforts following the homicide and reminded students and staff about available crisis and mental health services.
UW said SafeCampus specialists remain available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding holidays. Students and employees can leave messages through voicemail or email for follow-up support and referrals to campus resources.
The university also highlighted several 24/7 crisis services for students, staff and community members who need immediate help.
UW employees and eligible household members can access the Washington Employee Assistance Program for confidential counseling, legal assistance and financial support services. The program operates around the clock at 877-313-4455.
The university encouraged anyone experiencing emotional distress or suicidal thoughts to contact the national 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by phone, text or online chat.
UW also shared resources for survivors of sexual assault, harassment and relationship violence. Those services include campus advocacy offices, the Harborview Abuse & Trauma Center, the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network hotline and the King County Sexual Assault Resource Center.
For domestic violence support, UW directed students and staff to the National Domestic Violence Hotline and Washington’s DV Hopeline, both of which operate 24 hours a day.
University officials said students or employees facing an immediate emergency should call 911.
