EVERSON, Wash. — An 82-year-old man went to meet a prospective buyer for a test drive on Oct. 22. Instead, the man says he was punched, kicked and choked before two suspects drove away in separate vehicles, according to the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office.
After a massive law enforcement presence in the Nooksack area early Sunday morning, the sheriff’s office announced the arrests Monday.
Deputies identified David Jackson, 57, and Blanca Jackson, 58, both of Nooksack, as possible suspects in the incident. Authorities arrested both on Oct. 25 and booked them into the Whatcom County Jail without incident.
Victim Attacked During Test Drive
The victim had arranged to meet a man at Walmart to show him a vehicle he was selling. During the test drive, the man pulled over and ordered the victim out of the vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The man punched the victim in the head. A woman then arrived and began hitting and kicking him, investigators said.
The victim reported that one of the suspects put their hands around his throat and restricted his airway.
The male suspect then drove away in the victim’s vehicle, while the female suspect left in her own vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the 4900 block of Aldrich Road, where the incident occurred.
Deputies Locate Vehicle at Suspects’ Driveway
Investigators identified David and Blanca Jackson as possible suspects and later found a vehicle matching the description of the one seen leaving the scene in the Jacksons’ driveway.
The Sheriff’s Office said probable cause existed to arrest both suspects on suspicion of first-degree robbery, second-degree assault and motor vehicle theft.
Authorities Sought Public’s Help
Shortly after the assault, the Everson Police Department had asked the public to look for a dark blue or black 2002 to 2004 Honda CR-V with a distinctive white stripe along its sides.
Investigators said the female suspect had reportedly driven the Honda CR-V.
The stolen vehicle was a 2001 Toyota Highlander. The Sheriff’s Office had not confirmed its recovery in the information provided with the arrest announcement.
