RENTON, Wash. — Washington State Patrol say a gunman shot a driver Thursday on a busy Renton freeway ramp. It’s the second reported freeway shooting in the region this week.
The shooting happened on the offramp from southbound State Route 167 to 180th Street, according to Trooper Rick Johnson. Johnson said the driver of a Volkswagen fired at the driver of a Dodge Ram, hitting him in the shoulder.
Medics rushed the victim to a local hospital, where he was listed n serious condition.
Troopers arrested the suspected shooter at the scene. Investigators have not released a motive, and the case remains under investigation.
A second shooting in a matter of days
WSP asked for the public’s help following the August 18 on westbound I-90 in King County. Troopers said a driver towing a box trailer in a Ford F-650 called 911 around 11:05 a.m. that day.
The victim told troopers a passenger in a dark grey Infiniti G37 pulled alongside him and opened fire after both vehicles left a metered light at Front Street. The Infiniti fled westbound at high speed near the SR 900 exit.
WSP detectives are asking anyone who witnessed that shooting, or who has dash camera footage from between 11 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. on August 18, to contact Detective Judah Bergeron at Judah.Bergeron@wsp.wa.gov.
