SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. — Lane County, Oregon, detectives have identified the man taken into custody after yesterday’s armed standoff at Cascade Pizza as 47-year-old Tyler Earl Essex. Lane County has now charged him with murder in connection with a homicide there.
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest Thursday. The agency confirmed Essex was the man PNW Daily previously covered in connection with the Aug. 19 standoff at the Sedro-Woolley restaurant.
Woman Found Dead After Welfare Check
According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a residence in a South River Road neighborhood on Aug. 19 regarding suspicious conditions. Deputies and detectives then conducted a welfare check on 44-year-old Yuvonne Allison, based on information from an out-of-state caller.
Deputies found Allison dead at the location. The sheriff’s office said she died of multiple stab wounds.
Suspect Identified, Arrest Warrant Issued
Detectives quickly identified Essex as the suspect in the case. With help from the Lane County District Attorney’s Office, investigators then obtained an arrest warrant charging him with murder.
The sheriff’s office said it has notified Allison’s family of her death.
Arrested in Skagit County After Sedro-Woolley Standoff
Investigators located Essex in Skagit County, Washington. Local law enforcement there worked collaboratively with Lane County detectives to take him into custody without incident, according to the sheriff’s office.
That arrest confirms PNW Daily’s earlier reporting on the Aug. 19 standoff at Cascade Pizza in Sedro-Woolley. In that incident, Sedro-Woolley police and Skagit County deputies had responded after receiving information from Oregon about a man wanted in a violent felony investigation. Officers took the suspect into custody after containing him inside the restaurant’s beer garden.
Investigation Continues
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing and that there is no threat to the public at this time. The agency also said it has accounted for all parties connected to the investigation.
