MAPLE FALLS, Wash. — The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to help find James D. Harris, a 55-year-old vulnerable adult who has been missing from the Maple Falls and Kendall area since July 25.
Search and rescue teams have not located him after renewed searching, the sheriff’s office said.
“James is a vulnerable adult and has not been located after three days of searching by Search and Rescue teams,” the statement said.
Deputies describe Harris as 6-foot-4 and 198 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black motorcycle jacket, blue jeans, and a camo beanie. The sheriff’s office asks anyone who sees him or has information to call 911.
A gap between disappearance and renewed search
Harris was last seen nearly three weeks before the sheriff’s office issued its latest public appeal.
The three days of searching the sheriff’s office referenced points to a recent, active push rather than continuous searching since July 25, though the sheriff’s office has not detailed the gap or explained what prompted the renewed effort.
What PNW Daily observed on the river
PNW Daily has seen search and rescue crews on watercraft working the Nooksack River throughout upper and lower portions over the last several days.
Crews told onlookers they were conducting safety checks. They did not ask anglers or other people along the river for information about Harris. On one occasion, a Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife police officer accompanied the search and rescue teams.
The sheriff’s office has announced the river search or WDFW’s involvement. Anyone with information about Harris’s whereabouts should call 911.
