Soda Cans Spill Across I-5 in Bellingham Tuesday Morning

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A truckload of soda cans made for a messy morning commute Tuesday after cans spilled across northbound Interstate 5 at Iowa Street in Bellingham.

WSDOT received the report around 7:26 a.m. about the incident at one of I-5’s most notorious sections through Bellingham.

Soon after, WSDOT crews brought out a roadway sweeper to clear the cans while Washington State Patrol troopers assisted at the scene.

Meanwhile, the scattered cans blocked portions of the northbound roadway and prompted drivers to slow down as crews worked.

Lanes Reopen After Quick Cleanup

By shortly after the cleanup began, crews had cleared the roadway.

Shortly afterward, WSDOT reported that all northbound I-5 lanes at Iowa Street had reopened after 45 minutes of kick the can.

In the end, WSDOT reported no injuries or crashes in its updates.
