21-Year-Old Arkansas Man Killed Crossing SR 167 Near Renton

RENTON, Wash. — A 21-year-old pedestrian died late Wednesday after a driver struck him on northbound State Route 167 near the Interstate 405 interchange.

The Washington State Patrol identified the pedestrian only as a man from Clarkridge, Arkansas. Authorities withheld his name pending notification of his family.

Pedestrian Entered Roadway Near Ramp

The collision occurred at about 10:51 p.m. July 29 as a 22-year-old Seattle man drove north on SR 167 and took the ramp toward northbound I-405.

According to WSP, the pedestrian entered from the right side of the roadway and began crossing toward the left. The driver’s 2007 Honda then struck him.

The pedestrian came to rest in the third travel lane. Meanwhile, the Honda stopped in the gore point just north of the collision scene.

Emergency personnel pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. The driver, Dominic V. Do, called 911 and did not suffer injuries.

WSP listed “pedestrian in roadway” as the cause. The agency reported that drugs or alcohol did not contribute to the collision.

Northbound Lanes Closed For Hours

Authorities initially blocked every northbound SR 167 lane and diverted traffic onto northbound I-405.

The closure lasted approximately three hours and 15 minutes while troopers investigated. WSDOT reopened the roadway early Thursday morning.
