Collision Blocks Southbound I-5 Near Samish Way

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A collision blocked the left lane of southbound Interstate 5 near Samish Way on Monday afternoon, causing traffic to back up through the area.

The Washington State Department of Transportation reported the collision near milepost 252. Washington State Patrol troopers and tow crews had arrived at the scene by 4:59 p.m.

Traffic Backs Up Near Samish Way

A WSDOT traffic camera showed emergency vehicles in the left lane just south of the Samish Way overpass. Traffic remained open in the other southbound lanes, but congestion had formed behind the collision.

Drivers approaching the area should slow down, watch for emergency crews and allow additional travel time. Motorists should also move over when possible and avoid abrupt lane changes near the scene.

WSDOT reported the accident cleared at 5:40 p.m. The agency also had not released information about possible injuries or the number of vehicles involved.
