Suspected DUI Driver Crashes at Border After Bellingham Pursuit

BLAINE, Wash. — A suspected impaired driver crashed into a guardrail near the Canadian border after leading police north from Bellingham at speeds that reportedly reached 110 mph.

Blaine police said Bellingham officers requested assistance as the pursuit continued northbound on Interstate 5 overnight.

Pursuit Ends Near Border

The crash happened near milepost 276, just south of the international border. Interstate 5 curves sharply through that area as it approaches the Peace Arch crossing.

According to Blaine police, the driver struck a guardrail while traveling approximately 110 mph. The driver was the vehicle’s only occupant.

Officers took the driver into custody following the crash. North Whatcom Fire and Rescue crews then transported the driver to a hospital.

Police have not released the driver’s name, condition or expected charges. Authorities also have not disclosed where the pursuit began, what prompted the initial police contact or how long officers followed the vehicle.
