WSP Reports Unsafe Lane Change Causes Chain of Events
According to WSP, Clifford W. German, 43, of Tacoma, was driving a 2023 Freightliner truck in lane two when he attempted to change lanes and struck a 2008 Toyota Prius driven by Trinh T. Mai, 33, of Des Moines.
Troopers listed the cause of the crash as an unsafe lane change.
After the initial collision, the Prius came to rest in lane one and was struck by a 2014 Jeep Cherokee driven by Tayler P. Gray, 26, of Seattle. A 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by Jerrell A. Lewis, 41, of Bellevue then struck the Prius before being hit by a 2019 Subaru Impreza driven by Marcella M. Parker, 67, of Des Moines, according to investigators.
Mai and Jasmine C. Williams, 36, of Seattle, who was a passenger in the Mercury Grand Marquis, were injured and transported to Valley Medical Center. Troopers said all involved occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The crash blocked lanes one and two along with the right shoulder for approximately one hour and 36 minutes while crews worked to clear the scene. WSP said drugs or alcohol were not factors in the collision.
Two vehicles — the Toyota Prius and the Mercury Grand Marquis — were totaled in the crash, according to the report.
