BELLINGHAM, Wash. — America’s 250th birthday has arrived, and communities across Northwest Washington are preparing for one of the biggest Independence Day celebrations in years.
From waterfront fireworks over Bellingham Bay and Semiahmoo Bay to hometown parades, rodeos, carnivals and live music, there is no shortage of ways to celebrate the nation’s semiquincentennial this Fourth of July weekend.
While PNW Daily recently covered where fireworks are legal and the safety rules surrounding them, this guide focuses on where families can enjoy the festivities.
PNW Daily will provide live coverage throughout the day from Blaine’s Old Fashioned Fourth of July celebration, including the parade and the evening fireworks over Semiahmoo Bay.
Blaine Hosts Whatcom County’s Largest Celebration
Blaine once again hosts Whatcom County’s largest Fourth of July celebration with its annual Tuttle & Crump Old Fashioned Fourth of July festivities.
The celebration begins Friday evening with the Freedom Eve Concert at Borderite Stadium, where Brushpopper opens for Texas rock band Uncle Lucius from 6 to 9 p.m.
Saturday’s festivities begin with a community pancake breakfast before downtown fills with more than 100 vendors for the annual street fair.
The noon parade remains one of the region’s signature Independence Day traditions and is followed by the Red, White and Vrooom classic car show, Kid Zone activities, live music, a beer garden and family entertainment throughout the afternoon.
The celebration concludes with a fireworks spectacular over Semiahmoo Bay beginning around 10 p.m.
Bellingham’s Waterfront Celebration Returns
The Peoples Bank Fourth of July Spectacular returns to Zuanich Point Park on Saturday afternoon.
Activities begin at 4 p.m. with family games, food vendors, entertainment and live performances before fireworks launch over Bellingham Bay at approximately 10:30 p.m.
Visitors should note that portions of the nearby ASB Waterfront Trail remain closed through July 6 to accommodate fireworks preparations.
Consumer fireworks remain prohibited throughout the City of Bellingham.
Mount Vernon Celebrates Along the Riverwalk
Mount Vernon has moved its annual celebration across the Skagit River this year to Skagit Riverwalk Park in downtown.
Live music by Criminal Squirrel Orchestra begins at 8 p.m., followed by fireworks around 10 p.m.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets while leaving alcohol, personal fireworks, barbecues and canopies at home.
The city also reminds visitors that all consumer fireworks are now prohibited within Mount Vernon city limits following the ordinance that took effect in late 2024.
Loggerodeo Continues in Sedro-Woolley
Sedro-Woolley’s Loggerodeo offers one of the state’s longest-running Independence Day traditions.
Saturday features the annual Grand Parade beginning at 11 a.m., followed by the carnival, food vendors, chainsaw carving demonstrations, rodeo events, a street dance and the annual fireworks display at dusk.
Organizers note the carnival will close at 9:30 p.m. this year, allowing visitors time to move into fireworks viewing areas before the show begins.
Seattle Hosts Region’s Largest Fireworks Show
Those traveling south can celebrate during Seafair’s Fourth of July celebration on Lake Union.
Gas Works Park and Lake Union Park will host family activities throughout the afternoon before one of the Pacific Northwest’s largest fireworks displays begins around 10:20 p.m.
Officials strongly encourage attendees to use public transportation due to expected heavy traffic and limited parking.
Celebrate Safely
Law enforcement and fire agencies throughout Washington continue encouraging everyone to celebrate responsibly.
The Washington State Patrol is increasing DUI enforcement throughout the holiday weekend and reminds drivers to designate a sober driver before attending celebrations.
Fire officials also ask families to attend professional fireworks displays whenever possible and to remain considerate of veterans, pets and neighbors who may be sensitive to loud noises.
For those celebrating America’s 250th birthday across Northwest Washington, communities from Blaine to Seattle are offering plenty of opportunities to enjoy parades, music, food and fireworks safely throughout the holiday weekend.
