BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Emergency officials are warning Whatcom County residents that a widespread disruption is affecting 911 services Monday morning.
Whatcom County 911 said Whatcom County is among several counties in Washington and other states experiencing issues with 911 service.
Officials said local dispatch operations remain staffed and operational. However, some callers may not be able to reach emergency dispatchers by dialing 911.
Residents who cannot get through on 911 should hang up and call 360-676-6911 to reach dispatch personnel directly, according to emergency officials.
Alternative Emergency Contact Number
The outage affects the ability of some callers to connect through the 911 system. Dispatchers said the center remains operational and ready to respond to emergencies.
“If you are unable to reach help when dialing 911, hang up and dial 360-676-6911 to reach our personnel,” Whatcom County 911 said in a public alert.
City Issues Public Safety Warning
City of Bellingham also issued a public safety alert warning residents about the outage.
City officials said Bellingham and Whatcom County 911 services are experiencing disruptions and advised residents to use the dispatch center’s business line if they cannot connect through 911.
Officials also urged people without access to a working phone to go directly to a police station or fire station to report an emergency.
Multiple Counties Affected
Authorities said the disruption is not limited to Whatcom County. The outage is affecting multiple counties across Washington and other states.
Officials have not yet released a cause for the outage or an estimated time for full restoration of service.
Emergency managers said they will provide updates when normal 911 operations resume.
Residents should continue to call 911 first during an emergency. If the call does not connect, they should immediately call 360-676-6911.
