BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Soccer fans across Whatcom County will soon have several opportunities to cheer on Team USA as the City of Bellingham’s Fan Zone officially gets underway.
Bellingham serves as an official FIFA World Cup Fan Zone this summer, one of a select number of U.S. cities designated to host public watch parties and community events tied to the global tournament. The free events will feature large outdoor screenings, watch parties, family activities, giveaways and downtown celebrations.
First Watch Party Set for June 12
The first Fan Zone watch party is scheduled for June 12 at 6 p.m. at Trackside Beer Garden as Team USA takes on Paraguay.
Earlier that day, the Whatcom Museum will host the first of two “Fan Zone Fridays” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can take part in soccer-themed activities, watch match screenings and pick up giveaways.
Organizers encourage fans to make a full day of the festivities before gathering at Trackside to watch the match.
Downtown Block Party Planned for June 19
Fans will have two options to watch Team USA’s next match against Australia on June 19 at noon.
The Den and Wild Buffalo will close a portion of Commercial Street for a downtown block party centered around the match. Meanwhile, Trackside Beer Garden will also host a watch party for fans who prefer the waterfront venue.
City officials say additional watch parties and Fan Zone activities will continue throughout June and July.
More Summer Events Planned
Residents can find a complete schedule of watch parties, participating venues and Fan Zone activities through the city’s official Fan Zone website.
The summer-long celebration aims to bring the community together while showcasing Bellingham’s enthusiasm for soccer ahead of one of the sport’s biggest international tournaments.
