SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. — A fatal collision closed all lanes of State Route 9 near 84th Street Northeast in Snohomish County on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Washington State Patrol.
A northbound passenger vehicle lost control near the Lake Stevens area and crossed into the oncoming lane, striking a semi-truck. The impact fully blocked the roadway in both directions.

One Driver Killed in Crash
The driver of the passenger vehicle, a 72-year-old man, died at the scene. The semi-truck driver reported no injuries. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased, however, pending family notification.
“Since a commercial motor vehicle was involved, troopers from the Commercial Vehicle Division are on scene to assist in the investigation,” Trooper Kelsey Harding said.
Investigators are now working to determine the sequence of events leading up to the collision.
Road Closure and Traffic Impacts
The roadway remained fully closed Wednesday afternoon with no estimated time for reopening. Troopers expected the closure to last at least several hours as investigators documented the scene and crews cleared the wreckage.
As a result, drivers were told avoid the area and use alternate routes while the investigation and clean-up were completed for more then two hours.
