The 2026 Ski to Sea race is scheduled for Sunday, May 24, during Memorial Day weekend.
BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Ski to Sea 2026 race is officially sold out, organizers announced just hours after opening registration.
Race officials opened team registration on Jan. 16, and spots filled in record time. Within hours, the race hit its 500-team capacity, forcing organizers to close registration for the main field.
As of the announcement, 71 teams had already joined the waitlist, a number expected to grow in the coming days.
Organizers say teams should not lose hope if they missed the initial cutoff. Last year, race officials cleared 42 teams from the waitlist. Some registered teams declined their spots when their turn arrived, allowing officials to move further down the list.
Because of that pattern, organizers say they may reach out to teams ranked higher than No. 42 on this year’s waitlist.
Waitlist Open Through March
The waitlist will remain open through the end of March, giving teams additional time to sign up in case openings become available.
Team captains on the waitlist will receive instructions on how to check their exact position.
Meanwhile, the deadline to request a refund for any existing teams is April 1.
The 2026 Ski to Sea race is scheduled for Sunday, May 24, during Memorial Day weekend. The relay includes cross-country and downhill skiing, running, road cycling, canoeing, cyclocross, and a sea kayak finish into Bellingham Bay.
Teams can still add themselves to the waitlist through the official race website.
