Whatcom County Fire District Seven responded to alarms at Ferndale High School on Friday. No fire was found according to fire department officials.
FERNDALE, Wash. — Whatcom County Fire District 7 crews spent Friday afternoon searching Ferndale High School. Fire alarms sounded shortly after classes ended.
****UPDATE: Staff report to PNW Daily that, “It was a faulty sensor in the PAC. It’s been replaced.”*****
At first, students and staff were confused as Ferndale High School fire alarms sounded and an automated voice alert instructed them to evacuate the buildings.
As WCFD crews arrived, PNW Daily staff asked what type of fire they were responding to. At that point, firefighters said they only knew they were investigating a possible structure fire.
A short time later, school officials announced that evacuation was only necessary for the building housing the theater and band department.
Students and staff waited outside as crews from two fire engines searched the campus for signs of smoke or flames.
Despite a lengthy and thorough search, firefighters found no evidence of a structure fire.
This is a breaking story. PNW Daily will update this post as more information becomes available.
