BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders rushed to reports of a loud blast and fire Wednesday night near a wooded homeless encampment in Bellingham.
Whatcom County Fire/EMS began receiving multiple calls around 9:15 p.m.
Local social media conversations on Reddit and online community groups such as Bellingham Living and Deemer Watch on Facebook reported a propane tank explosion in the woods south of the Walmart.
PulsePoint, a public emergency alert platform, listed the incident as an “Explosion.”
Bellingham police officers located a large fire in a wooded area near the end of Tull Road. The site aligns with the area around 215 E. Tull Court.
Residents in several neighborhoods said they heard a loud blast. Some described feeling a concussive force that shook their homes. Others reported hearing the sound from miles away.
The Bellingham Fire Department extinguished the fire and cleared the scene by about 9:50 p.m., according to scanner traffic and community reports.
No injuries have been reported. Officials have not identified any ongoing danger.
