BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A razor-thin four-vote margin Michael Alvarez Shepard held ahead of Eamonn Collins in the Legislative District 42 state Senate primary has survived a recount.
The recount of the Aug. 4 Legislative District 42 state Senate primary contest is now complete, and the results remain unchanged, the Whatcom County Auditor’s Office announced Wednesday.
Shepard, a Democrat who serves on the Port of Bellingham Board of Commissioners and teaches at Western Washington University, finished with 13,125 votes.
Collins received 13,121 votes, leaving Shepard with a four-vote advantage.
Erika Creydt led the primary with 22,125 votes and will advance from the primary.
Ryan Bowman received 1,248 votes.
The certified recount results are:
- Erika Creydt: 22,125
- Michael Alvarez Shepard: 13,125
- Eamonn Collins: 13,121
- Ryan Bowman: 1,248
- Write-in votes: 35
- Overvotes: 15
- Undervotes: 782
- Total votes: 50,451
The Whatcom County Canvassing Board will certify the recount at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31.
The meeting is open to the public and will be held at the Whatcom County Election Center in the basement of the Whatcom County Courthouse, 311 Grand Ave., Suite B3, in Bellingham.
With the recount complete, the results now move to the canvassing board for formal certification.
