LYNNWOOD, Wash. — Four people were injured early Saturday in a suspected DUI rollover crash involving three SUVs and a semi-truck on northbound Interstate 5 in Lynnwood.

The collision occurred at 4:03 a.m. Aug. 1 near 196th Street Southwest, according to a Washington State Patrol report. WSP listed drugs or alcohol as involved, while the cause remains under investigation.
“N5 near MP181 all lanes are blocked except the HOV for a multiple-vehicle serious injury collision,” Trooper Kelsey Harding said early Saturday morning.
Rollover Led to Series of Collisions
Investigators said a gray 2006 Lexus GX470 rolled, struck the right shoulder barrier and stopped in the first northbound lane.
“Vehicle 1 was northbound I-5 at 196th St SW, lost control, rolled and struck the barrier on the right shoulder, coming to rest in lane 1,” WSP stated in its report.
A silver 2021 Toyota Highlander then struck the Lexus and stopped in the second lane.
Next, a white 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander moved from the first lane into the second lane while attempting to avoid the Lexus. However, it struck the Toyota before coming to rest in the first lane.
Finally, the driver of a semi-truck attempted to change lanes but struck the overturned Lexus. The semi stopped across the first and second lanes.
Four Taken to Area Hospitals
The 33-year-old Shoreline woman driving the Lexus was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett. The report lists her seat belt use as unknown.
The Toyota’s driver, a 44-year-old Federal Way man, and his passenger, a 23-year-old Lynnwood man, were also taken to Providence. Both wore seat belts, according to WSP.
Meanwhile, aid crews took the Outlander’s driver, a 48-year-old Shoreline man, to Swedish Edmonds Hospital.
The semi’s driver, a 37-year-old Auburn man, was not injured and was released at the scene.
WSP impounded the three SUVs as evidence. The semi was removed from the scene by its owner.
Although the WSP report identifies drugs or alcohol as a factor in the collision, it does not identify which driver investigators suspect of impairment. The agency lists the crash’s official cause as under investigation.
No deaths were reported.
