BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Lifeguards returned to duty at Bloedel Donovan Park on Monday, marking the start of the city’s supervised swimming season.
The City of Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department announced that certified lifeguards will staff the popular Lake Whatcom beach daily from 1 to 6 p.m., with hours dependent on weather conditions.
The seasonal program began Monday, June 29, and will continue through Aug. 30.
Parks officials also remind visitors to use caution whenever lifeguards are not on duty. Supervised swimming is available only from 1 to 6 p.m., weather permitting, and swimmers enter the water at their own risk outside those hours.
Bloedel Donovan Park, located on the shores of Lake Whatcom, features a designated swimming beach, and popular swim docks funded with assistance from the Bellingham Bay Rotary, a boat launch, boat and stand-up paddleboard rentals, playgrounds, picnic areas, sports courts, trails and a fenced off-leash dog park.
The park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
