FERNDALE, Wash. — Protesters gathered outside the ICE Processing Facility in Ferndale on Friday afternoon as part of an ongoing weekly demonstration opposing immigration detention policies and federal immigration enforcement actions in Whatcom County.
The demonstrations take place every Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. outside the facility at 5200 Pacific Highway in Ferndale. Local activists and community members have held the rallies consistently since at least August 2025.
PNW Daily stopped by Friday and observed a small group of demonstrators holding signs and banners along Pacific Highway and Old Highway 99. Drivers passing the area honked in support while protesters waved signs calling for immigration reform and the closure of detention facilities.
Organizers say the demonstrations aim to support immigrants and families affected by detention and deportation policies. Participants also use the rallies to raise awareness about ICE activity in Northwest Washington.
Weekly Protests Continue Into 2026
The Ferndale facility has remained a consistent site for demonstrations over the past year. Activists have continued organizing the Friday events into 2026, often responding to specific detentions or broader federal immigration enforcement efforts across the region.
Community members from several local advocacy groups regularly participate. Protesters typically position themselves near the roadway to maximize visibility to commuters traveling through the area during the evening rush hour.
Some demonstrators carried flags and signs with messages supporting immigrant rights. Others encouraged passing motorists to engage with the issue through conversations and community organizing.
Demonstrations Remain Peaceful
The Ferndale ICE Processing Facility has periodically drawn public attention as immigration enforcement and detention policies continue to spark debate nationwide.
Organizers say they plan to continue the weekly rallies in the coming months.
