BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Allegiant Air will close its crew base at Bellingham International Airport in November 2026, but all routes and flight service will continue without changes for passengers. Airport officials confirmed the move this week, emphasizing that travelers using Bellingham International Airport will not see any impact to schedules, destinations, or availability.
What The Allegiant Crew Base Closure Means For Passengers
An airline crew base is where pilots and flight attendants are assigned and begin and end their rotations. However, the closure does not affect scheduled flights.
Instead, Allegiant will shift to a turn-based operating model. Under this system, crews will fly into Bellingham from other bases and depart the same day without overnight stays.
As a result, passengers should expect no visible changes when booking or flying out of BLI.
Airport Officials: Service Will Not Change
“This decision reflects how Allegiant organizes its internal operations, not its commitment to travelers in Whatcom County,” said Aviation Director Matt Rodriguez.
Rodriguez added that Allegiant will continue serving Bellingham with its current routes and schedule.
Meanwhile, the Port of Bellingham acknowledged the closure while reinforcing its relationship with the airline. Officials said they remain focused on maintaining service continuity and supporting travelers.
Industry Pressures Behind The Decision
Airlines across the country continue adjusting operations as economic conditions shift. Fuel costs, staffing logistics, and changing travel demand all influence decisions like base closures.
In addition, cross-border travel patterns have created new challenges for airports near Canada, including Bellingham. Canadian passenger demand has fluctuated in recent years, affecting airline planning in the region.
What’s Next For Bellingham International Airport
Despite the change, airport leadership says long-term growth remains the priority. Rodriguez said the Port continues working to expand air service, strengthen airline partnerships, and improve connectivity for the region.
For now, Allegiant passengers can expect business as usual at BLI. PNW Daily will update this story as new information becomes available.
