CONCRETE, Wash. — New details have emerged after deputies located human remains along the Skagit River east of Concrete on Thursday.
Skagit County Sheriff’s Office Administrative Lt. Jeff Willard confirmed to PNW Daily that deputies conducted the search as part of an ongoing missing persons investigation.
“The operation was not connected to a search and rescue call and was indeed part of an ongoing missing persons investigation,” Willard said.
Deputies searched the Skagit River by boat near milepost 90 on March 12. During the search, they located a body along the riverbank.
Willard said investigators were working leads connected to missing persons cases in the area. However, he said authorities could not release many details.
Investigators transported the body to the Skagit County Coroner’s Office for examination and identification.
The coroner will determine the person’s identity. Officials will also determine the person’s age, sex, and race.
Willard confirmed the discovery was not skeletal remains from an older case.
“Investigators recovered a body,” Willard said. “We are hoping for the coroner’s report soon to have more information.”
Investigators have not linked the remains to a specific missing person case. However, several family members of missing persons commented on the sheriff’s office announcement.
The investigation remains active.
