CONCRETE, Wash. — Deputies located human remains in the Skagit River on Thursday during a search near milepost 90 east of Concrete.
According to the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office, deputies searched the river by boat on March 12 and discovered the remains along the riverbank.
Detectives responded to the scene and began processing the area. Investigators are continuing to examine the site as part of an active investigation.
Authorities have not identified the remains. The Skagit County Coroner’s Office will determine the identity and cause of death at a later date.
Investigators are asking the public to avoid the area while crews continue working along the river.
The sheriff’s office said additional information will be released when it becomes available.
Missing Person Cases Provide Context
Authorities have not released any details about the remains, including the person’s age, sex, or how long they may have been in the river.
Because the discovery occurred near Concrete along the Skagit River corridor, the area has been connected to several missing person cases over the years.
One recent case involves Krista J. Hunt, who was reported missing Feb. 1, 2026, from the Concrete area.
Other unresolved missing person cases connected to the upper Skagit Valley include:
- Mikayla Standridge, reported missing in 2023
- John Freday, last seen in Concrete in 2021
- Dustin Nations, missing since 2015
Investigators have not said whether the remains found Thursday are connected to any missing person cases.
For now, authorities say the discovery remains an active investigation and identification will be handled by the Skagit County Coroner’s Office.
