Video circulating on social media shows masked officers detaining a man in Bellingham as reports of immigration enforcement continue in Whatcom County. (Reddit)
BELLINGHAM — Social media posts shared Monday show video and photos of a law enforcement detention outside the Bellingham library, prompting renewed reports of possible U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity.
The video was posted anonymously on Reddit and later circulated in Facebook groups. It appears to show multiple masked officers detaining a person on the ground in a downtown area.
The person being detained pleads with the masked-officers, asking why they were being arrested.
“You have a criminal history and you’re in this country illegally,” the officer replied in the video.
What the video shows and says
In the recording, officers tell the individual that he has a criminal history and is “in the country illegally.” The statements are clearly audible in the video.
At one point, onlookers shout to the man being detained, but his attention is primarily on the officers. The video does not show any warrant paperwork.
PNW Daily cannot independently verify the claims made during the encounter. Courts and federal agencies, not officers in the field, determine immigration status and criminal history.
Warrant claims and enforcement context
Federal immigration enforcement often relies on administrative warrants. The Department of Homeland Security issues these warrants internally. They do not require approval from a judge.
The video does not confirm whether officers relied on an administrative warrant or another type of authorization. Without documentation or agency confirmation, the nature of the warrant remains unclear.
Earlier enforcement reported Tuesday
The Bellingham video follows an earlier enforcement action reported Monday in Whatcom County.
In that case, U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed that officers arrested a Venezuelan national who entered the United States in 2022. Federal officials said the individual accrued unlawful presence and authorities transported him to a detention facility for processing.
That arrest occurred amid increased federal enforcement activity across Washington state.
Previous Whatcom County coverage
PNW Daily has reported on multiple immigration-related arrests in northern Washington in recent months. Those reports included enforcement actions in the Blaine sector and transfers to the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma.
The Tacoma facility houses detainees from across Washington, including individuals arrested in Whatcom County. Federal agencies do not release arrest totals by city or county.
Agency confirmation still pending
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement does not publicly confirm all enforcement actions. Officers from several federal agencies also wear masks during sensitive operations. Tactics and uniforms alone do not confirm agency identity.
PNW Daily will update this story if officials confirm the identity of the officers involved or release additional details about the detention.
