Last week, Commissioner Wesen and Commissioner Browning voted to approve the nomination of Joe Burns to the vacant District 3 Commissioner seat. Judge Riquelme will swear-in Mr. Burns January 15th, at 4:30 p.m. in the Commissioners' Hearing Room.
MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — Officials will swear in Joe Burns on Wednesday to fill the vacant Skagit County District 3 seat on the Board of Commissioners.
Superior Court Judge Riquelme will administer the oath at 4:30 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Hearing Room. The ceremony is open to the public and will also stream on TV21 and Zoom.
Skagit Commissioners Lisa Wesen and Pam Browning selected Burns last week after former Commissioner Lisa Janicki retired effective Jan. 2, leaving nearly a year remaining in her term. Janicki’s term was set to expire Dec. 31, 2026.
Burns will hold the Skagit County District 3 seat until voters elect a replacement in November and the results are certified.
