BLAINE, Wash. — A border-hopping cat at Peace Arch Park is drawing international attention after a viral video from PNW Daily showed the animal crossing freely between the United States and Canada.
The cat, named Louis Vuitton, lives along Zero Avenue in South Surrey, British Columbia, just steps from the U.S. border near Peace Arch Historical State Park.
“The first time I saw Louis he was hiding under one of the new border signs warning Canadians not to cross,” said Brian Henderson, owner and publisher of PNW Daily. “When I said hello to him he immediately came over for pets.”
In one of the first videos PNW Daily posted in April 2025, Louis moves freely across a shallow ditch marking the international boundary. People on both sides sometimes notice him and keep walking. Louis often ignores them if they get too close.
“One time a family had been using the swings when Louis saw me and came over for pets,” Henderson said. “The kids ran over to pet him and tried to pick him up. He got very offended. He just wants pets, but he absolutely does not want strangers trying to pick him up.”
Cat Crossing U.S.-Canada Border Becomes Viral Moment
Louis Vuitton walks between Canada and the United States with little hesitation, even in one of the most monitored border areas in the region.
The latest video gained traction almost immediately after viewers saw him leap the border ditch. It quickly reached millions of views and drew attention from national and international media.
No physical fences exist at that stretch of the border. A narrow ditch and a residential street separate homes in Canada from Peace Arch Historical State Park in Washington.
In her television interview his owner, Deb Tate, said Louis is unusually friendly and frequently approaches strangers.
Tate said Louis walks up to people, accepts pets, and then continues exploring, no matter which side of the border he is on
Owner Says Border-Hopping Cat Is Friendly And Fearless
PNW Daily first learned about Louis last year from Zero Avenue residents who said he had become a familiar sight in the neighborhood.
“He hangs out in my shop all the time,” said Bob Christy, who first introduced Louis’ name to PNW Daily after witnessing numerous interactions between the cat and Henderson.
“Last year he caught a snake during one of the livestreams,” Henderson said. Tate also said Louis sometimes brings home gifts from his travels, including small animals he catches along the way. Border officials have not raised concerns about the cat, and he continues to roam freely in the area.
Peace Arch Border Location Adds To Viral Appeal
The location of the video helped drive its rapid spread online. Peace Arch Park allows visitors from both countries to meet without going through a checkpoint. The park sits between Blaine and Surrey and symbolizes the peaceful relationship between the United States and Canada, with the historic Peace Arch monument marking the site.
Viewers connected with the unusual sight of a cat crossing the border so casually; a moment that blends a familiar and symbolic setting with something completely unexpected.
PNW Daily Video Drives International Coverage
Multiple media outlets have now picked up the viral clip, with some expanding the story through interviews and additional reporting. PNW Daily first highlighted Louis’ border-crossing behavior and captured the original moment that sparked global attention.
PNW Daily was contacted to appear in the first television story on the subject. However, Canadian media outlets have interviewed PNW Daily staff multiple times in the past while repeatedly neglecting to include the brand in their coverage.
Louis Vuitton, meanwhile, continues his daily routine along one of the most recognizable borders in the world — entirely unaware of the attention he has generated on both sides of it.
