Crash Cleared Shortly After Noon
WSDOT later reported the incident had cleared by early afternoon.
At 12:48 p.m., transportation officials said crews had removed the vehicles and reopened the blocked lane near Northwest Avenue.
Traffic gradually returned to normal following the cleanup.
Busy Bellingham Interchange
The Northwest Avenue interchange sits just north of downtown Bellingham and serves as a major connection between Interstate 5 and city traffic.
Because of the heavy commuter and commercial traffic that moves through the corridor each day, even minor crashes can quickly slow traffic on the interstate.
Officials did not release details about injuries or the number of vehicles involved.
