MT. VERNON, Wash. — Federal authorities near Mount Vernon made a targeted immigration arrest this week during a coordinated enforcement operation involving multiple agencies, according to U.S. Border Patrol.
Blaine Sector intelligence agents assisted Enforcement and Removal Operations officers based in Ferndale in arresting Eugenio Pacheco-Ruiz, a Mexican citizen.
Prior local charges cited by officials
The U.S. Border Patrol’s Blaine Sector said Pacheco-Ruiz has prior charges that include driving under the influence and reckless driving. Officials did not release details about where those cases were filed.
Removal proceedings underway
Authorities say Pacheco-Ruiz remains in custody and is awaiting immigration removal proceedings. Officials have not released information about court dates or where he is being held.
PNW Daily requested additional details about the operation and whether agents arrested anyone else.
Continued visibility along the northern border
The Blaine Sector covers roughly 300 miles of the U.S.–Canada boundary, and federal officials have highlighted sustained enforcement visibility in northwest Washington in recent weeks.
As with many recent cases, authorities have not indicated whether additional criminal charges are pending beyond immigration proceedings.
The arrest follows several recent enforcement actions across the Blaine Sector, particularly in Whatcom and Skagit Counties.
PNW Daily will update this story if additional information becomes available.
