BLAINE, Wash. — Police arrested a Blaine man Thursday afternoon after a reported road rage incident in which a driver allegedly pointed a handgun at another motorist and chased them through the city.
Officers responded around 4:56 p.m. Feb. 26 to the 1000 block of Mitchell Avenue after a victim called 911 to report a brandishing. The caller told dispatch a man had pointed a pistol at them and was pursuing their vehicle.
According to Blaine Police, the suspect followed the victim at high speeds and drove recklessly, at one point cutting the victim off in traffic.
High-risk stop conducted
Officers located the suspect vehicle near the intersection of 3rd Street and H Street. Given the reported firearm and prior knowledge that the suspect may have been armed, officers conducted a high-risk stop.
Police took the driver into custody without incident. Officers recovered a loaded pistol from the vehicle.
Charges and booking
Authorities identified the suspect as 22-year-old Jonathon Leininger. Jail records show he was booked into the Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault and reckless driving.
Police have not released additional details about what led to the Blaine road rage incident.
