BLAINE, Wash. — A Mexican citizen arrested by federal officers in Blaine has alleged ties to a criminal cartel, according to the Department of Homeland Security’s DFO Seattle Field Office.
Officials said the arrest was carried out by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers. The individual was taken into custody and transported to an immigration detention facility pending further proceedings.
Charges cited by federal officials
According to the agency, the person accrued multiple criminal charges while in the United States, including:
- First-degree burglary
- Two counts of driving under the influence
- Third-degree assault
Authorities did not release the individual’s name or additional details about the investigation. No information was provided about the timeline of the alleged offenses or where the charges were filed.
Federal officials said the case will proceed through the immigration enforcement process.
Ongoing enforcement visibility
The arrest comes amid continued federal enforcement activity across Whatcom County, particularly in the Blaine Sector, which spans the U.S.–Canada border from the Pacific Ocean east to the Cascade Mountains. Officials routinely announce arrests on social media but often release limited case specifics.
As we’ve covered recently, data from the Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network’s Deportation Defense Hotline previously placed Whatcom among the top counties statewide for reported enforcement activity in 2025, behind only King and Yakima counties.
PNW Daily has requested more information from CBP for details of the many arrests in the Blaine sector.
