LYNDEN, Wash. — U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Blaine Sector arrested a Mexican national with multiple prior criminal charges after he fled from a vehicle stop near Lynden earlier this week, according to federal authorities.
Border Patrol officials said Blaine Sector Tactical Enforcement Unit, Special Operations Detachment, Intelligence Unit and K9 agents arrested Aquilino Reyes-Vasquez on Feb. 10 following a vehicle stop near Lynden. Authorities said Reyes-Vasquez fled before agents took him into custody.
Officials stated Reyes-Vasquez has multiple prior charges, including DUI, reckless driving, hit-and-run and assault.
It remains unclear whether the arrest is connected to enforcement activity observed later that evening near Lincoln Park in Blaine.
PNW Daily livestreamed an arrest near Lincoln Park on Feb. 10. During that broadcast, agents detained an individual in what appeared to be a targeted enforcement action. Federal authorities have not confirmed whether the two incidents were related.
PNW Daily sent a request for comment to authorities following the livestream. That request has not received a response. An additional inquiry seeking clarification on whether the Lynden and Blaine arrests are connected was sent Thursday.
The Blaine Sector covers Whatcom County and spans the U.S.-Canada border from the Pacific Ocean east to the Cascade Mountains. In recent months, federal officials have increased enforcement visibility in the region as part of broader nationwide border operations.
No additional details about Reyes-Vasquez’s custody status or potential immigration proceedings were immediately available.
