SEATTLE — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests Ferndale assault suspect, Ruben Marcelino-Luis, a 23-year-old Mexican national this week.
ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Seattle said agents arrested Ruben Marcelino-Luis, who faces a pending assault charge in Ferndale.. The agency described him as a “criminal alien” who unlawfully reentered the United States after a prior removal.
According to ICE, Marcelino-Luis was removed to Mexico on Dec. 19, 2021. Federal officials say he later returned to the United States without authorization.
ICE cites assault allegation
ICE said Marcelino-Luis has a pending assault charge in Ferndale and was previously arrested for assault. The agency did not identify the court handling the case or provide a case number.
ICE also did not release details about the alleged incident, including the date of arrest or the alleged victim.
Court records not immediately found
A search of publicly available Washington state court records did not immediately show a matching assault case under Marcelino-Luis’ name.
Ferndale operates a municipal court. Some cases do not appear in online databases without a full date of birth or case number.
Federal custody
ICE said Marcelino-Luis remains in federal custody.
The agency did not say whether federal prosecutors have filed an illegal reentry charge.
ICE regularly announces arrests on social media. Those posts often include limited information about local criminal cases.
The number of ICE arrests in Washington state the last few weeks are happening amid public outcry stemming from ICE operations in Minnesota resulting in two deaths. There are several anti-ICE protests planned around Seattle and across the state in the coming days.
