The possible Super Bowl matchups feel eerily familiar.
BLAINE, Wash. — The Seattle Seahawks dominated the San Francisco 49ers in a 41-6 divisional playoff win Saturday night, setting off celebrations across Whatcom County and sparking a wave of confused social media posts as loud booms echoed through Bellingham.
Those booms, fans quickly clarified, were not explosions. They were fireworks.
Across the region, Seahawks fans, known as the 12s, poured into streets, patios, and comment sections to celebrate the team’s most lopsided playoff win in years.
As the NFL postseason continues, fans are now watching Sunday’s matchups to learn who the Seahawks will face next in the NFC Championship. But for many in Seattle, the conversation has already shifted to something bigger.
Two Paths, Different Histories
The possible Super Bowl matchups feel eerily familiar.
If Seattle advances, the team could face Denver, a franchise it crushed in its first Super Bowl title in 2014. The Broncos, however, may be without rookie quarterback Bo Nix, who left Saturday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Or, the Seahawks could see New England again, the team that defeated them in the final seconds of Super Bowl XLIX the following year. That loss changed the trajectory of Russell Wilson’s career and still lingers in the minds of longtime fans.
Seattle’s defense has looked dominant throughout the postseason, fueling optimism that this team is capable of finishing the job.
Before any Super Bowl scenarios become reality, the Seahawks must first survive the NFC Championship. Potential opponents include the Chicago Bears or division rival Los Angeles Rams, whom Seattle would face for the third time this season.
For now, Seahawks fans have a week to relive the rout, debate the possibilities, and stare at the bracket.
Whether this season ends in redemption or repetition, one thing is clear.
The 12s are ready and PNW Daily will be here to cheer along side you the entire way.
